Quick service meals at theme parks can sometimes be disappointing. What are the best Universal Orlando quick service restaurants?
Theme park food has earned a reputation for being poor. When people think of theme park dining, they often think of below-average chicken tenders or burgers. In many cases, those thoughts are valid.
However, that stereotype is not always true. We enjoy several quick-service dining options at Universal Orlando Resort. Those looking for more than standard pizza, burgers, hot dogs, fries, and chicken tenders can find it there.
However, some non-traditional quick service meals at Universal Orlando include rice bowls, ribs, wok bowls, covered tater tots, salmon, and jacket potatoes. Of course, guests can enjoy the two Wizarding World of Harry Potter quick service restaurants for an immersive experience.
Despite the guests’ disappointment with theme park dining, several quality quick service restaurants can be found at Universal Orlando Resort. These can be found within the theme parks, Universal CityWalk Orlando, and the resort hotels. No matter your food preferences, there will be a quick service dining option that will provide what you want.
Criteria for Best Universal Orlando Quick Service Restaurants
This resource seeks to point readers to places where they will not regret spending money on food. Our list of the best Universal Orlando quick service will not include bars/lounges that do not serve a full food menu or bars that do not primarily serve food. These qualifying locations must serve actual meals. That means quality snack places like Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor in the Diagon Alley area of Universal Studios Florida and Natural Selections in the Jurassic Park area of Universal Islands of Adventure do not qualify. Voodoo Doughnut at Universal CityWalk Orlando also does not qualify for this list. However, all those places are worth stopping for a savory or sweet snack.
We will include the quick service at the resort hotels and Universal CityWalk Orlando. Unlike our previous best Universal Orlando theme park quick service list, we will not rank these quick service options in any order. Ironically, some of the previous top ten options no longer exist and were replaced with some of our updated selections for the best quick service restaurants at Universal Orlando Resort.
Each group of people visiting Universal Orlando Resort has distinct preferences and dietary needs, so narrowing it down in this format would be unfair to those groups. Still, we will add some insight into our reasoning for declaring each restaurant worthy of the best Universal Orlando quick service dining list.
Quick Service Restaurants at Universal CityWalk Orlando
In a previous article, we discussed the best dining options at Universal CityWalk Orlando. Though we love Voodoo Doughnuts, it does not measure up as a quick service restaurant for anything more than a sweet treat. As a result, Voodoo Doughnut did not make our best quick service restaurant list this time around. In fact, only one of the CityWalk restaurants made our best quick service restaurant list. Still, we continue to be big fans of the table service options at Universal CityWalk Orlando.
Best Universal Orlando Quick Service Restaurants: The Top Nine
We narrowed down the list of quick service restaurants at Universal Orlando to the nine best choices. One is located in CityWalk, and another is at a Loews/Universal Orlando Resort hotel. Three of our selections can be found at Universal Islands of Adventure. The other four options reside within Universal Studios Florida.
We want to mention one quality quick service restaurant that fell just short of the best Universal Orlando Resort quick service restaurant list. Wimpy’s Burgers in the Toon Lagoon area of Universal Islands of Adventure provides customers with above-average quick service burgers. The plant-based burger at this location also deserves mention. If you want a good burger but do not want to leave Islands of Adventure to go to CityWalk, then Wimpy’s Burger makes a solid choice.
Epic Universe Factor Regarding Best Universal Orlando Quick Service
When the brand-new Universal Epic Universe theme park opens on May 22, 2025, we expect several new quick service dining locations to deserve consideration for being top options at Universal Orlando Resort. Generally, the newer the theme park’s quick service location, the better the food and experience there. We expect quick service dining options at Universal Epic Universe to be good, like at:
- The Oak & Star Tavern (Celestial Park)
- Toadstool Café (Super Nintendo World)
- The Burning Blade Tavern (Dark Universe)
- Café L’Air De La Sirène (Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic)
- Mead Hall (Isle of Berk)
Until May, the following list of quick-service restaurants reigns supreme at Universal Orlando Resort. We often make these dining choices when visiting.
Red Oven Pizza Bakery at Universal CityWalk Orlando
First up on our list is Red Oven Pizza Bakery. Guests wanting quick service pizza should step out of the two current theme parks into CityWalk for this place. Red Oven Pizza Bakery uses special pizza ovens to create fantastic guest options. Pizza at Red Oven Pizza Bakery avoids the standard sub-par quick service pizza flavor and texture at Orlando theme parks. While several Universal Orlando Resort hotels offer above-average pizza, Red Oven Pizza Bakery provides an excellent quick service version.
As guests would expect, this place specializes in salads and pizza. The salads and pizzas are large enough to share. Of course, that only works for people willing to share food. For those wanting pizza for a quick service meal while at the theme parks or CityWalk, Red Oven Pizza Bakery makes the best choice by far!
Urban Pantry at Universal’s Aventura Hotel
We know there are fans of the Bayliner Diner at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Still, the food court across the road at Universal’s Aventura Hotel presents most guests with higher quality food and more non-traditional theme park resort cuisine.
The Urban Pantry food court feels far less crowded and busy than other theme park resort hotel food courts. Some of this is due to the small number of rooms at Universal’s Aventura Hotel. Another factor is that guests must take a short bus ride from Universal CityWalk Orlando.
Nonetheless, Urban Pantry offers high-quality, quick service food. Like most food courts, guests can order burgers and chicken sandwiches. The pizzas here come from a special pizza oven, elevating the quality similarly to the pizza oven at Red Oven Pizza Bakery. In addition, guests can order sushi and made-to-order rice and noodle bowls.
The more relaxed setting at Urban Pantry also enhances the dining experience. It is a solid choice for those looking to take a short break from the busier theme park or CityWalk atmosphere. In fact, we have several colleagues who visit this quick service option every visit. It is also a short walk from Universal’s Volcano Bay water park.
Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks
The two current Wizarding World of Harry Potter restaurants must be on any best quick service list. Though we expect great things from the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter dining choices at Universal Epic Universe theme park, these two restaurants have merit.
Leaky Cauldron at Universal Studios Florida and Three Broomsticks at Universal Islands of Adventure elevated the quality of quick service food served at Universal Orlando resort theme parks. Before Three Broomsticks opened in the Hogsmeade area, food at Universal Orlando was below average. The arrival of Three Broomsticks served as one of the signs that “foodies” could expect better options.
Though the Leaky Cauldron serves a slightly more British-themed menu than Three Broomsticks, the menus resemble each other. Though the food and beverages are worth visiting for, the atmosphere and decor fulfill most Harry Potter fans’ desires. The décor in some sections matches the level of the “Harry Potter” movie franchise, and in some cases, it is superior.
Both restaurants draw crowds and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests should know that breakfast entrees come with a small beverage. Those looking to get their butterbeer fix can start each morning with a small one. For lunch and dinner, guests can expect entrees like fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and salads. Vegan diners will also find above-average options at the Wizarding World quick-service restaurants.
Due to possible high crowd levels at these restaurants, guests should plan to spend a few extra minutes getting their food at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter restaurants. Guests should soak in the décor and try to relax in these busy restaurants.
Thunder Falls Terrace at Universal Islands of Adventure
Many experienced Universal Orlando visitors view this quick service as the best in the theme parks. Thunder Falls Terrace, rumored to be planned initially as a table service restaurant, provides an elevated quick service meal. While some expenses were spared, this Jurassic Park-themed quick service option easily makes the best Universal Orlando Resort quick service list.
Guests dining at Thunder Falls Terrace can enjoy the view of the drop for Jurassic Park River Adventure. Seating is available indoors and outdoors. Guests can enjoy lunch and dinner here.
The menu at Thunder Falls Terrace exceeds the standard fast-food style meals at most theme park quick service operations. Guests can order ribs, slow-roasted pork, rotisserie chicken, rice bowls, “Prehistoric Raptor Wings,” and key lime cheesecake. Overall. Thunder Falls Terrace provides above-average food and a decent atmosphere for guests’ day at Universal Islands of Adventure.
Green Eggs and Ham Café at Universal Islands of Adventure
Staying in Islands of Adventure, we leave the Jurassic Park area to travel to the other side of the lagoon. In Seuss Landing, guests can enjoy covered tater tots at Green Eggs & Ham Cafe.
These made-to-order items come in several varieties. Those include:
- Green Eggs & Ham Tots: Green eggs, diced ham, white cheese sauce over tater tots
- Who Hash: Corned beef, onions, white cheese sauce, scallions, and tater tots in a Who Hash can
- Carnitas Tots: Roasted pork, jalapeños, tomato salsa, scallions, lime crema, and white cheese sauce over tater tots
- Pizza Tots: Pepperoni, sausage, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce on tater tots. Guests may also order Vegan Pizza Tots.
- Buffalo Chicken Tots: Chicken tenders, mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced scallions, ranch, and buffalo sauce on tater tots.
Each option can be shared and costs around $12, except the Who Hash, which costs more due to the collectible can. The seating is all outdoors and limited. Still, this quick service option makes for a great snack or light lunch.
Central Park Crepes at Universal Studios Florida
Leaving Islands of Adventure, our last three best Universal Orlando quick service restaurants reside in Universal Studios Florida theme park. Central Park Crepes opened in the summer of 2020. Despite the obvious drop in attendance at Orlando theme parks during the early COVID era, Central Park Crepes quickly gained a following.
This made-to-order crepe stand serves savory and sweet crepes. Though these would not qualify as authentic crepes, the components and freshness give guests an excellent meal.
The types of crepes sold at Central Park Crepes change periodically. Guests should expect at least one savory crepe, like a smoked brisket crepe. In addition, guests should expect at least one sweet crepe. In recent times, a vegan sweet crepe has been available as well.
These crepes will be fresh. They also might be messy, so prepare for that factor. This quick service kiosk does not have dedicated seating. However, outdoor seating can be found near Café La Bamba.
Today Café at Universal Studios Florida
Near the park’s entrance, guests will see Today Café. This place specializes in pastries, desserts, unique breakfast items, and sandwiches. Guests can dine indoors or outdoors. The theming is straightforward, with The Today Show playing on some small screens and similar merchandise and décor found here.
Today Café creates several seasonal treats to pair with the timing of special events at Universal Orlando Resort. These include treats for Mardi Gras, Halloween Horror Nights, and the Holidays at Universal.
The highlights of the menu include:
- Smoked Salmon Lox Bagel
- Breakfast Sandwich, Everything Croissant
- The Carnegie Platter – hot piled high pastrami, Swiss cheese, deli mustard, toasted rye served with potato salad
- The Bulls & The Bears Platter – smokey beef brisket, cheddar cheese, arugula, pickled red onion, horseradish cream, warm crusty baguette served with potato salad.
Guests looking for a hearty quick service meal will enjoy Today Café. This restaurant’s location also makes it a decent place to watch the parade during Mardi Gras and the holiday season.
Illumination’s Minion Café at Universal Studios Florida
This cute quick service location gives Minions fans a place to dine. The Illumination’s Minion Cafe utilizes a table delivery mobile ordering system. To order, you need an updated Universal Orlando Resort mobile app. Guests first are directed to a seat. Using the mobile app, they select the items they want to order in the app. After that, guests need to indicate their table number and pay. The team members will bring the food and beverages to your table. Universal Orlando Resort uses this system at several of its quick-service dining locations. We expect more of this when Universal Epic Universe opens in May.
The décor reflects the overall theme. Many photo opportunities exist inside and outside Illumination’s Minion Café. The menu presents guests with elevated quick service entrées. In fact, the kids’ meals feature a few non-traditional options. Some highlights of the menu include:
- Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon – wood-grilled Atlantic salmon, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers, edamame, lipstick taser sauce
- Carl’s Crispy Cauliflower – crispy cauliflower florets with sweet & spicy chili sauce, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers and edamame
- Chicken Stuart’s Szechuan Surprise – Szechuan glazed rotisserie chicken, stir-fried vegetable lo mein
- Uncle Dru’s Belly Fillin’ Pork Sandwich – slow-roasted porchetta, chimichurri sauce, mustard aioli, apple butter, bacon jam, arugula, Hawaiian pretzel bun, green banana chips.
Illumination’s Minion Café makes a solid option for intergenerational groups. It offers enough décor and food options for people of all ages.
